With Anjelica Huston’s memoir, ‘A Story Lately Told,’ hitting shelves later this month, we thought it was the perfect time to pay tribute to this timeless star. In part, we feel a certain duty to school the young, style-obsessed generation that has no clue how influential this actress has been in film and fashion. (If you are one of these people, you should keep reading…)

See, no one does cool quite like Huston. The leggy brunette first hit the scene in the early 80s, stealing our heart (and Jack Nicholson’s) with her chill downtown vibe. In a time when oversized shoulder pads and cheesy perms were the trend, Huston made boho glam and a sleek bob her signature — and ultimately — iconic style. While she could have skated through life on her lineage alone (her father was famed director John Huston and her mother was prima ballerina Enrica Georgia Soma), she earned her acting chops. In 1985, Huston’s role inPrizzi’s Honor (a movie her father director) scored her the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. However, it was her characters Etheline Tenenbaum and Eleanor Zissou, in Wes Anderson’s cult classics The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic, that earned the actress mainstream fame. Today, Huston has over 60 films to her credit that include cinematic classics like The GriftersManhattan Murder Mystery and The Addams Family.
But it was her love affair with Jack Nicholson they we’ll never, ever forget. They were the original Johnny and Winona — equally cool apart, but a force of nature together. And while they might not have lasted – our love for Huston has only grown over the years. Her chic style, sharp wit, grace, and talent make her second to none. And that never goes out of style in our book.
